Indian vaccination process is to start shortly as the three vaccine-makers, including Pfizer, having applied for emergency use authorisation EUA of their vaccine candidates in India. Without mentioning the exact date, the health ministry on Tuesday revealed details of how the entire vaccination programme will be conducted.

Health secretary Rajesh Bhushan addressing a press meet on Tuesday, said the Centre has created an application which will monitor the process from the beginning to the end. Co-WIN, the new app which will be available for free download, is an upgraded version of the Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN).

- Administrators, vaccinators and people who are going to receive these vaccine shots can use this application.

- Self-registration has been introduced from Stage 3 for people with co-morbidity through Co-WIN application. First two stage priority groups data are already compiled or under compilation by the state government, stage 1 frontline workers and stage 2 emergency workers.

- Co-WIN application has five modules, Administrator module, registration module, vaccination module, beneficiary acknowledgement module and report module. Each vaccination will take 30 minutes time and in a session 100 people will be vaccinated.

- Administrators can create session through Administrator module and the respective vaccinators and managers will be notified.

- The bulk data on co-morbidity provided by local authorities or by surveyors can be uploaded in Registration module

- Beneficiary details verification  and updating the vaccination status will be done in the vaccination module

Beneficiary acknowledgement module will send SMS to beneficiaries, also generates QR-based certificates after a person gets vaccinated.

Report module will prepare reports of how many vaccine sessions have been conducted, how many people have attended those, how many people have dropped out etc.

- The real-time data of the temperature of the cold-storage units to the main server will also be send by the application.

About the grouping of stages, secretary informed that “It is to be noted that the government will take a final call on this and these stages may not be sequential. Depending on the availability of the vaccines, these can go on simultaneously". Every individual who wnats to be vaccinated will get their dose, assures the secretary.
