Modi, Anthony Albanese watch cricket match in Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Australian Prime Minister   Anthony Albanese watched the first day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy test match at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, March 9.
This is the fourth meeting between the two countries' leaders since the Australian Prime Minister was elected in 2022. Mr.Anthony Albanese will be on India visit till March 11.

After arriving at the stadium, the leaders took a tour of the facility amid cheers by the amazed spectators. After that they met their respective cricket team captains viz Rohit Sharma and Steve Smith (stand captain) -- and watched the game for about 25 minutes together.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was received at the stadium by Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, BCCI chairman Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah.

Australia is setting up a Deakin University facility at the GIFT city in Gandhinagar. Prime Minister Albanese also launched a scholarship policy for Indian students called, "Maitri".

Earlier, Albanese professed his respect for Mahatma Gandhi during a visit to the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. He showed respect by taking off his shoes, went to the Gandhi residence's "Hriday Kunj," where he saw khadi being woven on a spinning wheel. He received books from the Ashram about Gandhi's salt march, his life in Ahmedabad from 1915 to 1930, and a replica of the spinning wheel. The books were authored by Australian novelist Thomas Weber.
