New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government has taken a very important decision keeping in mind the interest of the people of the country. In fact, the central government has announced to provide free food grains to 80 crore people of the country under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) till December of next year. For this, the central government will spend about 2 lakh crore rupees.

Announcing this, Union Food Minister Piyush Goyal said that those who will be provided food grains under this scheme do not need to pay even a single rupee. The central government will bear the entire burden of providing free food grains. For this, Rs 2 lakh crore will be spent every year. Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the government provides 5 kg of food grains per person every month. This food grain is provided by the Center at the rate of Rs 2-3 per kg. However, now the government will make it available absolutely free of cost. Under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), such families get 35 kg of food grains per month.

At the same time, the central government will no longer extend the free ration scheme provided under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY). The scheme ends on December 31. This scheme is different from the food grains given under NFSA. The centre had started this scheme during the lockdown imposed during the crisis of the Corona epidemic. Under this scheme, 5 kg of free grains (wheat or rice) were given per month to the needy.
