Modi govt's big gift to 1.5 crore central government workers, increased variable DA

New Delhi: The Ministry of Labour and Employment on Friday announced an increase in variable DA of more than 1.5 crore employees in the central sector from Rs 105 to Rs 210 per month. The increase will come into effect from April 1, 2021. It will also increase the minimum wage rate of employees and workers working in the central sector. This is for employees belonging to various scheduled employments of the Central Government.

The rates fixed for scheduled employment are applicable to establishments under railway administration, mines, oil fields, main ports or any corporation authority set up by the Central Government under the Central Government. These rates are equally applicable to both contract and temporary employees/workers. In this regard, Chief Labour Commissioner D P S Negi said, "Dearness Allowance has been increased from Rs.105 to Rs.210 per month for employees belonging to various scheduled employments of the Central Government".

The Ministry said in a statement that it has notified the revised variable DA with effect from 1st April, 2021. According to the statement, this will benefit the workers belonging to various scheduled employments of the Central Government at a time when the country is facing the second wave of corona epidemic. Variable DA is revised on the basis of Average Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW) for industrial employees. It is compiled by the Labour Bureau. The average CPI-IW from July to December, 2020 has been used for revision of variable DA.
