Brasilia: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Chinese President Xi Chinfing here on Wednesday and in order to strengthen bilateral relations and give new strength, the two top leaders agreed to maintain contacts on matters related to trade and investment. The Prime Minister said in a separate meeting from the 11th BRICS Summit on Wednesday that bilateral relations have received "new energy and new direction" after the non-official summit in Chennai. The second informal summit between the two leaders was held in Mamallapuram near Chennai on 11–12 October. During that time both had discussed various issues and committed to jointly fight terrorism, fundamentalism, increase bilateral trade and investment.

The Prime Minister's Office said in a tweet, "Negotiations between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping have been meaningful. Other key issues, including between trade and investment, were discussed." Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ravish Kumar said in a tweet that Modi-Jinping has discussed various aspects of multilateral India-China relationship. An official statement said that the two top leaders have agreed to maintain close dialogue on matters related to trade and investment. Apart from this, both have also agreed to a new high level system on trade and economy.

Prime Minister Modi said, "I am happy to meet you once again. When I look back, we first met in Brazil and our journey started. This journey of unknown people today in close friendship Has changed. After this, we have met in many forums, bilateral events. You went to my home state, you came to receive me outside Beijing in Wuhan ... these important things "Which happened within five years .... have become such a trusting and friendly relationship." President Chinfing thanked Prime Minister Modi for India's substantial participation in the China Import Export Expo in Shanghai. He has also invited Prime Minister Modi for the third informal summit in China in 2020.
