Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (August 24) launched Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Center equipped with new technologies in Mohali, Punjab. According to officials, this project was started in view of the increasing spread of cancer in some parts of the state, which has cost crores of rupees to complete. Officials say that under the health insurance scheme 'Ayushman Bharat' for the poor, the central government has a special focus on cancer treatment so that patients can be saved from the huge expenditure on its treatment.
He has said that under the 'Ayushman Bharat' scheme, a health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh per family is given per year for admission to a secondary or tertiary care hospital. A total of 435 procedures, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy packages, have been defined for the treatment of cancer. The hospital has been built at a cost of Rs 660 crore by the Tata Memorial Centre, an aided institution under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.
Officials have said that the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Center has been constructed by the Central Government at a cost of more than Rs 660 crore. It has a 300-bed facility and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities like MRI, CT, Mammography, Digital Radiography and Brachytherapy. The hospital will have a day care facility for chemotherapy, while there will be a minor OT for biopsy and minor surgeries.
