Ahead of the three-tier panchayat elections in Odisha in the coming month, the voters of a village in coastal Bhadrak district have a strange demand from all the candidates. In fact, the voters here have demanded that the monkeys should be driven away or else they will boycott the election. In fact, about a dozen people have been injured in simian (a type of monkey) attacks in Gopagdadharpur village of Talpara gram panchayat of Bhadrak district in the last two months.

It is being said that many people injured in the attack of these monkeys had to be admitted to the hospital. The villagers say that a group of 30 monkeys is continuously attacking the villagers and due to this, the villagers, who are angry with the monkey attacks, have now decided to boycott the panchayat elections to be held next month. On the other hand, Zila Parishad member Chintamani Das is contesting for the post of member of Tihidi Panchayat Samiti. He says that the people here want to get a concrete assurance to get rid of the monkeys, otherwise they will not vote. At the same time, he further said that earlier monkeys used to eat vegetables or fruits, but in the last 2 months, they have become very violent. In the past, a woman was caught by these monkeys and bit on her shoulder.

After that, she was in the hospital for several weeks. On the other hand, Harish Chandra Mishra, a former member of Tihadi panchayat, says that due to the monkeys, it has become difficult for people to walk on the streets, because the monkeys start chasing them. "We are lucky that the schools are closed and the children are safe, otherwise this dangerous monkey would have attacked the children also. We want any Member to give us a concrete assurance that they will get us rid of the monkeys, otherwise, we will not exercise our opinion." Let us tell you all that Talapada is the birthplace of Lakshmikant Mohapatra and he had written the state anthem of Odisha 'Bande Utkal Janani.'

In such a situation, the family members of Lakshmikant Mohapatra are also struggling with the terror of monkeys and his grandson and daughter-in-law were also attacked by these monkeys. Not only this, Banikalyan Mohapatra, the grandson of the poet, says 'If we forget to close the door, the monkeys pick up fruits and vegetables from our kitchen and take them away.' To get rid of monkeys, the people of the village have also put up posters of 'No Network No Vote.' For the past two years, the people of the village have been opposing this merger and have also submitted their complaint to the CM, but so far no action has been taken on it.
