Bengaluru: Due to the lockdown, the functioning of the Karnataka Information Commission office has come to a standstill. More than 22 thousand applications submitted under the Right to Information (RTI) have not been disposed of in this office during six months. Due to the fear of Coronavirus, there has also been a huge drop in the number of applicants applying in this office.

Due to the imposition of corona control works to most of the officers of this department, there are only a few selected officers left in the office. Citing lack of officers, the applications are not being disposed of. This office was closed in 51 days of Corona Lockdown, after that no activity is seen in this office even at different stages of unlock.

According to Karnataka Information Commission Commissioner NC Srinivas, the number of pending applications has increased due to the closure of the office at the time of corona lockdown. During the unlock, the Commission has given the decision after hearing several cases online. A proposal for technical improvement has been sent so that more applications are possible for online disposal in the coming days. After this, a large number of applications will be disposed of online. According to information activist Puttaswamy Gowda, who has submitted more than three hundred applications to the commission so far, the applications under the Right to Information are not being heard in the Karnataka Information Commission office since March 25. Administrative officials are not disposing of such applications on the pretext of corona lockdown. Applications can be disposed of online but it has not yet been done.
