JAMMU: Amidst the break of dawn on Tuesday, more than 6,000 devoted pilgrims embarked on their journey from Jammu to the enchanting valley of Kashmir. This marked the departure of the sixth batch, commencing the 62-day annual pilgrimage to the revered Amarnath cave shrine nestled in the majestic South Kashmir Himalayas. The two tracks of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district were set abuzz with the devotees' presence on the first day of July.

As the day progressed, the shrine witnessed an increasing influx of pilgrims from all corners of the country, painting a vivid picture of devotion and faith. The footfall is expected to surpass the remarkable 50,000 mark by the end of the day. Eagerly, the devotees flocked to the base camps, drawn by the allure of the naturally formed ice-shivlingam, yearning for a glimpse and to offer their heartfelt prayers.

Under the vigilant watch of robust security measures, a convoy consisting of 6,107 pilgrims embarked from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu towards the valley. Among them were 1,203 women, 193 seers, and 31 children, united in their quest for spiritual fulfillment. A fleet of 244 vehicles accompanied them, ensuring their safe passage on the sacred path.

The first rays of sunlight saw 3,929 pilgrims embarking on their journey to Pahalgam. A convoy of 140 vehicles carried them through the scenic route, leading them closer to their divine destination. Simultaneously, another convoy of 104 vehicles set out towards the Baltal base camp at 3:15 am, carrying 2,178 devout pilgrims filled with anticipation.

With this recent departure, a remarkable total of 30,269 pilgrims have embarked from the Jammu base camp since the auspicious day of June 30. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha graciously flagged off the first batch, setting the wheels in motion for this spiritual odyssey.

The pilgrimage is set to conclude on the 31st of August, leaving behind memories etched in the hearts of those who embarked on this sacred quest.
