Assam came into the limelight due to opposition to the Citizens Amendment Bill. After the bill became law in the state, the protest had intensified. Protesters who staged protests set fire to several places. After this protest has stopped, a new case has emerged. 3 lakh fake students have been found in the government schools of Assam who have been registered, but they have not been to school till date. Government documents released on Monday revealed that all this happened during the previous Congress government in the state.

According to the news, during the year 2018-19, 46,69,970 children were registered for the academic session from class First to twelfth in the state, compared to 49,82,180 in the year 2016-17. It has been alleged that the previous government had done all this to grab the books received by the students, midday meal and government money for the uniform.

During the review meeting of the Composite Education Campaign, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was told that the figure was revealed to more than 3,12,000 fake students. Taking this matter seriously, the Chief Minister said that strict action will be taken against whoever is found accused in it.
