The court on Friday sentenced the deceased woman's mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law to life imprisonment for burning her own daughter-in-law alive in a land dispute six years ago.
In March 2, 2013, a resident of Naigarhi village under Mungawali area of the district, young woman Suman wife Udal Singh Yadav was brought for hospital treatment in a charred condition and Mungawali police had brought Suman's brother Hari Singh in a charred condition.
An investigation with Yadav's statements found that Suman had asked her in-laws to share the land with her mother-in-law Benibai, father-in-law Shivraj Singh, Jeth Pran Singh and Jeth Malkhan Singh, who had locked Suman in the room and beat him with kerosene. After that Jeth Pran Singh set fire to the chimney. Based on the moribund statement and medical report of the deceased Suman, Suman was found to be 90 to 95 per cent burnt," he said.
While hearing the case, Mungawali Court Second Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Arshad had sentenced the accused to life imprisonment, mother-in-law Benibai (60), father-in-law Shivraj Singh Yadav (65), Jeth Pran Singh (40) and five hundred others. On the other hand, Jeth Malkhan Singh was acquitted in the case.
