Motorsport riders from Bengaluru dominate in the MMSC FMSCI Indian National Motorcycle Drag Racing Championship

Motorsport activities have found their loyal fanbase in India. With dedicated people competing in this sport, Madras Motor Sports Club is one of the reputed names for motorsport lovers in India. Established in 1953, the Madras Motor Sports Club has eventually moved its racing activities from Sholavaram to the Madras Motor Racing Track (MMRT) circuit in Sriperumbudur. Being a pioneer in promoting motorsport in India, the club has given endless opportunities to riders who have progressed by leaps and bounds.

The riders from Bengaluru led by the reigning champion Hemanth Muddappa was honoured in the first round of the MMSC FMSCI Indian National Motorcycle Drag Racing Championship which was held at the MMRT on August 8. The championship was conducted keeping in mind all the safety COVID-19 protocols. The 31-year old rider Muddappa straddled on his Suzuki Hayabusa who posted the fastest time among other riders. Clocking 07.882 seconds over 302-metres, he won the Super Sport above 1051 CC category leaving other Bengaluru riders Hafizullah Khan and Harish Naik behind him who made it in with 08.116 seconds and 08.538 seconds respectively. 

Muddappa who is in a completely different league currently holds the National Drag record at 07.783 seconds that was set by him on October 10 last year. Even this year, the rider’s triumph streak was on. Speaking about his victory, he stated that due to the high track temperature the timing was slower than what he expected. In a press release, he said, “The track temperature affected all the riders and we all posted slower timings. We were much quicker in January during the final round of the 2020 championship.” 

In the other category of Super Sport from 851-1050 CC class, Bengalurean Mohd Riyaz was the quickest to complete the race with a timing of 08.026 seconds followed by Hemanth Muddappa (08.116 seconds) and Hyderabad’s debutant NV Satyanarayana Raju (08.191 seconds). Moreover, in the girls' category on Saturday, Chennai Riders took away the spotlight in the 4-stroke, up to 165 CC class with Lani Zena Fernandez, Nivetha Jessica and Soundari Sindy finishing the race. 

Besides this, in the Super Sport Indian 361-550 CC class, Bengaluru once again dominated the race with Aiyaz Rem emerging as the winner who clocked in the race in 12.568 seconds followed by Zuheeb Ahmed (12.860 seconds) and D Annish Samson (12.942 seconds). In the other racing categories, a majority of the motorsport riders from Bengaluru and Chennai dominated the game making this motorsport event a mega success of 2021.
