New Delhi: The Election Commission has reached the country's largest court on Thursday, challenging the High Court order in Madhya Pradesh by-election. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has banned the permission given for the physical political assembly with a limited number of people for campaigning in the assembly by-elections under the guidelines of the Election Commission. The by-elections are being held in the state following the resignation of the loyal Congress MLAs to Jyotiraditya Scindia, who joined BJP in Madhya Pradesh.

The Gwalior bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court has banned the physical rallies of political parties in the state. The Gwalior Bench of the High Court, in its order, prohibited political parties from holding physical meetings unless they have been certified by the District Magistrates and the Election Commission that a virtual election campaign is not possible. Even if permission is given to hold a physical meeting, the political party will need to deposit money for this.

This amount should be sufficient to double the amount of masks and sanitizers required for the protection and sanitization of the people required in the assembly. The High Court also said that the candidates concerned would be personally responsible for the distribution of masks and sanitizers to the people present in the meetings.
