BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav launched the 'Swachhata Pakhwada 2024' campaign during a special event in Bhopal on Tuesday. The initiative, aimed at enhancing cleanliness across urban areas, will run until October 1, 2024. The Chief Minister also announced incentives for Safai Mitras, recognizing their crucial role in maintaining public health and hygiene.

During his speech, CM Yadav mentioned the importance of the day, which coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and Vishwakarma Jayanti. He extended his greetings to the people of Madhya Pradesh and highlighted the start of the cleanliness campaign across the state and the country.

Reflecting on PM Modi’s call for cleanliness, CM Yadav said that although people were initially unaware of the significance of cleanliness, it has now become a priority nationwide. He expressed pride in the progress made, particularly in rural areas, where villages have achieved Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus status. He also commended Bhopal for being recognized as the 'Clean Capital' of India and Indore for securing the title of the Cleanest City for the seventh consecutive year.

CM Yadav paid tribute to the Safai Mitras, comparing their dedication to that of soldiers protecting the nation. "Safai Mitras work tirelessly to safeguard public health and prevent the spread of diseases. Our state's global recognition for cleanliness is due to their relentless efforts," he said.

The Chief Minister then announced a system of incentive payments for Safai Mitras, which will be based on the star ratings achieved by urban bodies in the Swachhta Survey 2024. Safai Mitras in areas with a 1-star rating will receive Rs 1,000, with the amount increasing up to Rs 7,000 for those working in 7-star rated bodies.

In addition to the cleanliness initiative, CM Yadav inaugurated 50 'Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras' in district hospitals across the state. These centres will provide affordable, high-quality generic medicines to the public, offering around 300 types of medicines at reduced prices.
