The Madhya Pradesh government has taken a significant step towards gender equality in the public sector. In a recent development, the state government in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, issued a notification on October 5th, announcing a 35% reservation for women in government job recruitment. This progressive move excludes the Forest Department from this reservation provision.

To implement this change, the government has amended the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Special Provision for Appointment of Women) Rules, 1997. The amendment ensures that 35% of all job positions within the state's various services (excluding the Forest Department) will be reserved for women during the direct recruitment stage. It's important to note that this reservation will be applied horizontally and compartment-wise.

This announcement aligns with the commitment made earlier by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to provide 35% reservation for women not only in police and other government jobs but also to extend 50% reservation for women in teaching positions. Additionally, women will receive priority in local bodies, including roles as aldermen and other positions. The government has also taken steps to cover the education fees of girls, ensuring they have access to quality education.

Furthermore, it's worth mentioning that the Women's Reservation Bill, which was recently passed by the Parliament and received assent from President Droupadi Murmu, has become law. This bill, known as the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhniyam,' mandates a 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. The Rajya Sabha unanimously approved this historic bill, making it the first legislation to pass in the new Parliament building.

On September 20th, the bill received widespread support, with 454 members voting in favor of its passage and only two members voting against it during the division. This legal milestone reflects a significant stride toward gender equality and women's representation in government bodies in India.
