India's charismatic former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been re-elected as captain for ESPN Cricinfo's One-Day and T20 team of the decade on Wednesday. The 23-member committee made the selection on the basis that the player has played at least 50 Tests or has been active for 6 years in the traditional format. 75 matches were required for One-Day and 100 matches for T20. Off-spinner R Ashwin has also been included in Test XI. Ashwin has been out of limited-overs cricket since the arrival of wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. England's Alastair Cook and New Zealand's Ken Williamson are also in the squad. Kohli has scored 7202 Test runs at an average of 54.97 while Ashwin has taken 362 wickets.

According to sources, Kohli is the only Indian selected in 3 formats while Rohit Sharma has made it to the ODI. Jaspreet Bumrah, Kohli and Dhoni are in the T20 team. The T20 squad consists of 5 West Indies players Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, Kirron Pollard, and Andre Russell. Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami are in the ODI and T20 teams in the women's team. Australia's Meg Lanning has been elected captain.

Since Team India's semi-final defeat in the World Cup, Dhoni had told himself to be unavailable to join the team, since which he has been keeping a distance from the team. When asked about his return to the field, Dhoni said that nothing should be asked about this till January. Now it has to be seen when he returns to the field.
