Mulayam Singh Yadav admitted in ICU at Medanta hospital in Gurugram

Mulayam Singh Yadav, a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and a prominent member of the Samajwadi Party, was reportedly admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) ward of the Medanta hospital in Gurugram, Haryana, on October 2.

According to reports cited by news outlet India Today, Yadav was sent to the ICU after his health took a "serious" turn. His condition was described as severe. Over the past few years, Yadav, 82, has experienced a number of health issues. Due to his fragile health, he has had to drastically limit his public appearances.

Akhilesh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party president and Yadav's son, reportedly left for Delhi and is on his way to the nearby city of Gurugram to visit his father in the hospital. Shivpal Singh Yadav, Yadav's brother and the leader of the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party, is allegedly in Delhi and is scheduled to fly to Gurugram to visit his ill brother.

Yadav has spent the last three months in the hospital twice, both times at Gurugram's Medanta. According to sources, he was hospitalised in July after receiving a normal checkup.

Yadav currently represents the Uttar Pradesh constituency of Mainpuri in the House of Representatives. He held the position of chief minister of the state three times, from 1989 to 1991, 1993 to 1995, and 2003 to 2007. From 1996 until 1998, he served as the Union's Minister of Defense.

"My prayers and wishes to Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji and his family - hope he makes a quick recovery," the BJP's national spokesperson, Shehzad Jai Hind tweeted, responding to a report on his health update.
