A court in Mumbai sent Punjab National Bank’s internal chief auditor, Bishnubrata Mishra to CBI custody till March 14. He was arrested by the CBI on Thursday.

Bishnubrata Mishra, a retired internal auditor of PNB, was arrested by CBI on Wednesday in connection with the multi-crore PNB fraud by jeweler Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi. He served as the chief auditor at PNB Brady house branch during the period from 2011 to 2015. He was responsible for auditing the procedures and practices followed at the PNB Brady house branch.

CBI also conducted searches in chawls in Wadala suburb of Mumbai and claimed to have found documents related to Letters of Undertaking (LoU). The chawl, where the documents were found, is said to be registered under Nirav Modi’s name. The searches were triggered by the information sourced out by CBI after questioning the arrested and other suspects.

The investigating agency has earlier arrested another manager-level official, M.K. Sharma, the chief internal auditor. He was also remanded to CBI until March 13.

Punjab National Bank’s Brady House branch is the center of the case as the fraudulent letters of undertakings (LoU) have been issued by this branch. Since the case came to light, CBI has arrested several PNB officials in connection with the fraud.
