CHANDIGARH: A suspect from Mumbai in the rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack case was detained on Thursday by the Punjab Police, central security agencies, and Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad.
The suspect, Charat Singh, was reportedly instrumental in providing logistical support and arranging weapon.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav tweeted, "He is key operative & associate of #Canada-based #BKI terrorist Lakhbir Singh @ Landa. @PunjabPoliceInd will try to make the state crime-free as per CM @BhagwantMann's vision."
On May 9, an RPG was launched from the street and fell on the third level of Sector 77's Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters.
Police found during their investigation that the attack was the result of a plot by Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), supported by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan and local gangsters.
This Monday, a judge received a 272-page chargesheet that laid out the allegations against seven of the case's 13 defendants.
Seven of the accused, including a minor, have been taken into custody; the other three have fled.
Those detained include Nishant Singh of Kulla village in Bhikhiwind, Kanwarjit Singh, Jagdeep Singh Kang of Sector 85 in Mohali, alias Kanwar Bath of Gumtala in Amritsar, Baljinder Singh, alias Rambo, of Patti, Baljit Kaur, alias Sukhi, of Kot Khalsa in Amritsar, Anant Deep Singh, alias Sonu, of Guru Nanak Colony in Amritsar and Lovepreet Singh, alias Vicky.
