Mumbai-bound bus falls into gorge: 12 dead, 27 injured

Raigad : As many as 27 people were injured and a dozen  lost their lives in a tragic accident in Maharashtra's Raigad district on the old Mumbai-Pune highway today, April 15. A bus travelling from Pune to Mumbai crashed into a gorge while carrying roughly 40 passengers, causing the tragedy to happen. 

The bus was carrying members of a traditional music troupe from Pune to Mumbai when it fell into a gorge near Shingroba temple on the highway at around 4.50 am.

As per reports, the bus was transporting members of the "Baji Prabhu Vaadak Group" from Mumbai's Goregaon. After taking part in an event in the Pimpri Chinchwad area of the Pune district, they were going  back to Goregaon. Around Saturday morning at 1:00 a.m., the bus had left the location.

The police source also stated that the incident took place within the boundaries of Khopoli Police Station, which is located about 70 km from Mumbai.

Raigad Police officiaol Somnath Gharge while informing about the people involved in the accident said that they belonged to Sion and Goregaon in Mumbai and Virar in neighbouring Palghar district.

The injured passengers were confirmed by police to be between the ages of 18 and 25. They are currently being treated at the Khopoli Rural Hospital. A search operation to locate the missing passengers is currently being carried out by a group of local police and hikers.
