MUMBAI RAIN: Maharashtra witnessed heavy rainfall in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday morning, putting it at the top of India's wettest regions list. Tamhini in Pune recorded the highest rainfall at 300mm, matching the precipitation levels in Umerpada, Gujarat. Lonavla saw 245mm, Shirgaon recorded 266mm, and Walvan experienced 218mm.

Severe Waterlogging and Public Transport Disruptions in Mumbai
In Mumbai, the Andheri Subway has been closed due to severe waterlogging caused by persistent rains. This has significantly impacted low-lying areas across the city and its suburbs, disrupting public transport and causing major inconveniences for commuters.

Vihar Lake Overflows Amidst Heavy Rains
Vihar Lake, one of the seven lakes that supply water to the Mumbai metropolitan area, began overflowing at around 3:50 AM today. The lake's full storage capacity is 2,769.8 crore liters (27,698 million liters). The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) shared a video of the overflowing lake on its official social media handle on X.

Rescue Operations in Lonavla
Lonavla was among the hardest-hit areas, prompting rescue efforts in Malvali where residents were trapped in their homes due to flooding. The region's infrastructure struggled to handle the deluge, stretching emergency services to their limits.

Detailed Rainfall Data in Pune
In Pune district, rainfall varied significantly. Lavasa recorded 205.5mm, while Lavale received 113mm in 24 hours. Urban areas like Shivajinagar saw 39.9mm of rain till Wednesday morning with an additional 7.7mm later in the day. Chinchwad initially recorded 38.5mm, with further rainfall following.

Heavy Rains in Satara and Kolhapur Districts
Mahabaleshwar in Satara district recorded 150mm of rainfall from Tuesday to Wednesday morning. In Kolhapur district, both Shahuwadi and Gaganbawada recorded 140mm each, making them some of the wettest places in Maharashtra and India on Wednesday, second only to regions in Gujarat.

IMD Issues Severe Weather Warnings
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued "red" and "orange" weather warnings for the Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan regions until July 27, predicting continued heavy to very heavy rainfall. Medha Khole, head of the weather forecasting division at IMD Pune, stated, "Since Tuesday, we have been receiving moderate rainfall. There is very heavy rain on the outskirts. Lavale received 113mm in the 24 hours till Wednesday morning. From 8:30 AM till 8:30 PM on Wednesday, it received 104mm. In Pune city, we're witnessing moderate rainfall around four to five centimeters."
