In this series, England spinners Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar demolished batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara. After this series victory, Mushtaq Ahmed, who was the spin coach of England, has told about the reasons for winning this series. Mushtaq had been in the support staff of England since 2008. He said, 'India's focus was to deal with James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Steve Finn. This planning of Team India gave Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann an opportunity to perform magic. He said that no Indian batsman tried to sweep the England spinners. Only Sachin Tendulkar did this thing.'

He said, "Both Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni were playing traditional shots." Mushtaq said, 'We won the series in 2012, because we knew how the field is set, at what speed to throw the ball. Virat and Dhoni were not sweeping the ball. Only Sachin was doing this. India's focus was to face England's seamers, but the spinners surprised them. Graeme Swann took 19 wickets in 4 Tests while Monty Panesar took 17 wickets in three Tests. Panesar took a total of 11 wickets in the second Test of Mumbai. Mushtaq said, "Swan and Panesar were more successful in this series than R Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha."
