SAN FRANCISCO: Elon Musk, the tech billionaire, has earned approx 6 million Twitter followers amid the USD 44 billion acquisition saga.

Before the Twitter agreement, the Tesla CEO probably had around 83 million followers. He does, however, have over 89 million followers on the microblogging site as of now. Meanwhile, a statement claims that fake accounts have dramatically boosted Musk's following count.

Musk has over 7% more fake followers than the median 41% of accounts with similar-sized followings, according to audience analysis firm SparkToro. The auditing tool found that accounts on an unusually small number of lists, accounts with no URL or a non-resolving URL in their profile, and accounts with a suspiciously small number of followers were among the most frequently observed traits of a sample of 2,000 random accounts from the latest 100,000 accounts that followed Musk, based on an analysis of more than 25 factors correlated with spam, bots, and low-quality accounts.

Twitter just announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by a corporation controlled entirely by Musk for USD 54.20 per share in cash, in a deal worth almost USD 44 billion.

Twitter will become a privately held firm after the acquisition is completed. The acquisition price is 38% higher than Twitter's closing stock price on April 1, which was the last trading day before Musk revealed his almost 9% investment in the company.
