Mumbai: While Maharashtra is reeling under corona, Muslim leaders in the state have written to CM Uddhav Thackeray to relax restrictions during the month of Ramadan. The Raza Academy has written to Uddhav asking him to exempt Muslims during Ramadan and not impose restrictions in the name of the corona. Last year also, corona guidelines were violated during Iftar and other religious programs during Ramadan.

It may be recalled that the Uddhav government in Maharashtra has said that any religious program there requires the permission of the administration and the crowd cannot be mobilized. Last year also, during Ramadan, the government did not give such permission. This time Ramadan begins on Monday, which will end after a month. During this time Muslims set fast and break the fast during Iftar in the evening.

Accordingly, Eid will take place on May 12 this time. It can be a difficult task for the government to control the crowd as there is a lot of activity in the markets during Eid. Recently, during Holi, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had advertised that strict action would be taken against anyone who tried to play Holi in public. BJP leader Arjun Singh had then instructed Shiv Sena to name it 'Muslim Sena.'
