Lucknow: Before the Uttar Pradesh elections, a Maulana has written an open letter to AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi. In this letter, an appeal has been made to Owaisi that AIMIM should not field candidates to distribute votes in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. On the other hand, Owaisi is going to field Mafia don and former MP Atiq Ahmed's Begum from Prayagraj West.

All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMIM) member Maulana Khalil-ur-Rehman Sajjad Nomani has written this letter to AIMIM Chief and Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad Asaduddin Owaisi. Actually, AIMIM is going to contest the assembly elections on 100 seats in Uttar Pradesh. Regarding this, Maulana has written in his letter that AIMIM has announced to contest 100 seats in the elections to be held in UP. But given the popularity of the party, there are speculations that it may split the Muslim vote, which may benefit the communal forces. Maulana has asked Owaisi to stop the division of votes against the more oppressive and communal people. He wrote in his letter that, 'In my opinion, you should apply your full strength only in those seats where victory is certain, and on the rest of the seats you yourself should appeal for an alliance.'

Let us inform that AIMIM has decided to field his wife Shaista Parveen from Prayagraj West assembly seat, considered to be Atiq Ahmed's stronghold. Party's state spokesperson Afsar Mehmood has announced his candidature. Atiq Ahmed has won the assembly elections from this seat in 1989, 1991 and 1993 as an independent candidate and in 1996 as a Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate. When Ateeq Ahmed became MP from Phulpur Lok Sabha seat in 2004, he gave Prayagraj seat to his brother Khalid Azim. His brother was defeated by Raju Pal of BSP in the 2004 by-election. After which Raju Pal was murdered. Both Ateeq and his brother are the main accused in this case.
