Myanmar, Cambodia talks bilateral cooperation, ASEAN issues

Cambodia: According to a press statement from Cambodia's foreign ministry, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met with Myanmar's visiting Foreign Minister, U. Wunna Maung Lwin, to discuss bilateral cooperation and ASEAN concerns.

Lwin congratulated Cambodia on becoming the next chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2022, according to a news statement, and offered complete support for Cambodia's aims and deliverables.

According to reports, Myanmar's foreign minister commended Cambodia's timely cooperation in cash and kind in the joint fight against Covid-19, which helped Myanmar control and reduce the catastrophic effects of Covid on the country. Sokhonn, for his part, commended Myanmar for offering Covid vaccine to Cambodian citizens living and working in Myanmar, and asked Myanmar to provide them with the necessary support during their stay.

"Both sides agreed to step up efforts to advance cooperation in sectors like as commerce, economics, people-to-people interactions, and multilateral fora," according to the press release. Lwin paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen earlier in the day, and the two men discussed bilateral relations and recent regional developments.
