New Delhi: In the first Test, India easily defeated West Indies by an innings and 141 runs, and the visitors completed the match in Dominica on Day 3. India took a 271-run lead in the first innings before bowling the Windies out for just 130 to win the match and grab a 1-0 series lead.
In the Dominica Test, the spinners were in charge. Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed five wickets overall in both innings, while he and Ravindra Jadeja combined for nine wickets in the second innings. Three of India's five wickets—even for the West Indies—were taken by spinners.
Anil Kumble, a legendary spinner from India who is part of the broadcast team for the series, said that India might consider utilizing Kuldeep Yadav on such fields despite the spinners' largely good performance in the Test.

The left-arm spinner didn't earn a spot for the West Indies Tests, but he was a member of the Test team for the home series against Australia in December 2022 when India's last Test against Bangladesh was played.
“He should definitely be there because he is a very good bowler. Leg-spinners are very attacking bowlers and it is also difficult at times, they concede runs as well but you need to take a leg-spinner along with you and groom him, and whenever you get a chance, he should be given an opportunity,” said Kumble.
“Kuldeep Yadav is a very good spinner for Test matches. He has given very good performances whenever he has got a chance as well. There are a lot of wrist-spinners in white-ball formats. We are not getting to see them much in Test matches,” Kumble added.
Kumble emphasized that Kuldeep has to be given matches whenever possible, even if he acknowledged that the present spin team of Ashwin and Jadeja has performed excellently and praised Axar Patel.

“Ashwin and Jadeja are doing a very good job for the Indian team currently. Both are high-quality spin bowlers. The third spinner is also Axar Patel, he has done extremely well whenever he has got an opportunity. As I said, Kuldeep Yadav should also be kept alongside them and played whenever you get a chance,” said Kumble.
Axar, the team's third and lone spinner, sat on the side as India's strongest spin attack of Ashwin and Jadeja took the field. India might be willing to give Axar a chance in the second and final Test, which starts on July 20 in Port of Spain, given their 1-0 series lead and the underwhelming performance of the West Indies with the bat.
