Patna: Voting for the first phase of the civic bodies in Bihar has started. The polling for 156 municipal bodies in 37 districts of Bihar, which began at 7 am, will continue till 5 pm. In Naxalite-affected Gaya, polling will be held till 3 pm only. Of the total 224 in Bihar, 156 bodies for which voting is being held today include 68 city councils and 88 city panchayats. The police administration has made adequate security arrangements for the voting.
In the same first phase, votes are being cast for a total of 3,658 seats, including 3,346 Ward Councilors, 156 Deputy Chief Councilors, and 156 Chief Councilors. 6,965 polling stations have been set up for the first phase of polling. 52 lakh 60 thousand 530 voters will decide the fate of 21,287 candidates. Out of 21,287 candidates, maximum 17,647 candidates are trying their luck for the post of Ward Councillor, 1,697 Deputy Chief Councilor and 1943 candidates are trying their luck for the post of Chief Councillor.
More women candidates than men are in the fray in this municipal election. While 9702 men are trying their luck for different posts, 11,582 women candidates are in the fray. The counting of votes for the first phase of municipal elections will be done on December 20 and the result will also be announced on the same day. Voting is going on for Piro Municipal Council as well as Bihiyan, Jagdishpur, and Shahpur Nagar Panchayats in the Arrah district. 132 polling stations have been set up for voting in these 4 bodies where more than 97 thousand voters will vote to elect their representative. The police administration has made strong arrangements for peaceful and fair elections. 48 sector, 16 zonal and 5 super zonal magistrates have been deployed who are monitoring the polling process.
