Nana was born on 1 January 1951. His real name is Vishwanath Patekar. Nana Patekar's childhood was spent in poverty. He started working from the age of 13. After school, Nana used to go to Chuna Bhatti, 8 kilometers away, and paint film posters to earn a living. Nana Patekar started his film career with the film 'Gaman' in the year 1978.  He has been featured in films like Giddha, Ankush, Prahar, and Pratighat. He has worked in films of many languages including Hindi, Marathi.

Nana remained in news for her love life throughout his career. It was in the year 1996 when Nana Patekar fell in love with Nepalese beauty Manisha Koirala. In the year 1996, the film 'Agni Sakshi' of these two was released. Manisha also could not stop herself and fell in love with Nana Patekar and during this film both started dating each other.

The news about their off-screen chemistry and love started spreading like a fire in the entire Bollywood industry. There were speculations in the media about the relationship between Nana and Manisha that even the neighbors of Manisha Koirala told the media that they have seen Nana Patekar leaving Manisha's house several times in the morning. But after some time Manisha wanted Nana to name their relationship and she wanted Nana to marry her.

However, Nana was already living separately from his wife. But Nana always hesitated when it came to marriage. Nana had told Manisha in clear words that he would not divorce his first wife and their relationship Break.

Nana Patekar once confessed that he hates Sanjay Dutt and he will work with Sanjay Dutt.  On March 12, 1993, there was a bomb blast in Mumbai. Sanjay Dutt was found guilty in this serial blast. His brother died in that blast. Nana Patekar said that he cannot forgive Sanjay Dutt. In the interview, Nana Patekar told that even though Sanjay Dutt has served his sentence in the 1993 bomb blast, he will not work with him.
