AHMEDABAD: The Nanavati Commission has made scathing remarks raising serious questions over the role of three former IPS officers Sanjeev Bhatt, RB Srikumar and Rahul Sharma in the Gujarat riots case. The authorities had alleged that the state government was involved in the riots. The commission rejected his evidence and statements.

At the same time, it has been learned that the then Deputy Commissioner of the State Intelligence Bureau, Bhatt, created a new story of the meeting due to personal mingling with the government and senior officials. Bhatt claimed that he was present in the meeting held in the CM office on February 27, 2002 and CM Narendra Modi directed the police and administration not to take strict action against the majority.

The tour was not secret but official. His visit was not meant to erase evidence.
