New Delhi: Indian Olympic Association President Narinder Dhruv Batra has made a big pitch for the Commonwealth Games. He termed it a waste of time and advised the country to withdraw from the Games. Batra said that India should concentrate on participating in those big international events where the level of competition is high and Olympic preparations can be good. He said he would put this proposal in the IOA executive meeting, which could take place in the next month. If the members approve it, the Olympic body will take it to the government and then later to the Commonwealth President, when he visits India in November.

He said that there is no level of these games. For them, it is a waste of both time and money. We win 70 medals, 100 medals in the Commonwealth Games, while in the Olympics we stop at two. Talking to a newspaper, he said that the level of the Commonwealth Games is not very high. These rankings are not even tournaments. So why waste time? We should go to good competition and prepare for the Olympics.

Let me tell you that the IOA proposed to boycott the 2022 Commonwealth Games for not including shooting in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games to be held in 2022. However, Lucy Martin, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju are scheduled to meet next month. In which the issue is expected to be resolved.
