Two farmers supposedly committed suicide over loan trouble in drought-affected Chandvad taluka of the district today.

They said, “The dead were recognized as Rambhau Kondaji Vakte (36), a resident of Vadner Bhairav village and Devidas Bhausaheb Chavan (38), a resident of Hirapur village”.

Vakte consumed poison after eating dinner at his residence last night and died in a hospital during treatment, they said, adding that he was under debt of Rs 8 lakh.

They said,”On the other hand, Chavan died in Nashik civil hospital, where he was admitted on May 17 after he had consumed poison”

The farmers were distraught over water scarcity, unseasonal rainfall and debt burden, they said.

A case of unintentional death was registered, police said, adding further investigation is on.
