India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the setting up of a committee headed by Director General (Acquisition) for review of Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP) 2016 and Defence Procurement Rules (DPM) 2009. The government has given a six-month provision to the committee to give its recommendations. On March 28, 2016, then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar unveiled the Defence Procurement Process 2016. This replaced the defence procurement process in 2013.

The Group of Ministers met on Saturday at Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's residence amid continued tension with Pakistan. Sources said the meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar. However, details on what issues were discussed at the meeting have not been released. It is believed to have brainstormed on the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
