This year, the country is celebrating the 75th anniversary of independence. On Independence Day, there is an atmosphere of enthusiasm and celebration in the minds of the entire countrymen. This year, Independence Day is being celebrated as 'Amrut Mahotsav of Independence' in the country. Every Indian stands in honor whenever the National Anthem of India, Jana Gana Mana, is heard. The National Anthem of India has a history of its own.

'Jana Mana Gana Adhinayak Jai Hai' was sung at the Calcutta Session of the National Congress on December 27, 1911. It was sung for the first time by Sarla, the niece of Nobel Prize winner and national anthem author Rabindranath Tagore. Sarla along with school children performed the song in Bengali and Hindi languages. The national anthem was composed by national poet Rabindranath Tagore this year. Tagore had earlier written the national anthem in Bengali and then, at the request of Subhas Chandra Bose, Abid Ali converted it into Hindi and Urdu. On January 24, 1950, it was declared the National Anthem in the Constituent Assembly of Independent India.

Jana Gana Mana was used in the 1945 film Hamrahi before the same national anthem was declared. It was sung for the first time by Rabindranath Tagore himself at Besant Theosophical College in Andhra Pradesh in 1919. The administration of Besant Theosophical College then made it a morning prayer. After independence, Jana Gana Mana was made an officer song at the Doon School in Dehradun before it was declared the national anthem.
