Bengaluru: Recently, the future of the 4-month-old BS Yeddyurappa-led BJP government in Karnataka will become clear on Monday. The counting of the 15 seats on which by-elections have been held in the state will be held on Monday. In the voting held on 5 December, 67.91% of the voters cast their votes. The counting of votes at 11 centers will start from 8 am and the results will be revealed by noon. The election officer gave information to this effect on Sunday.

According to sources, it has been learned that after the rebellion of 17 MLAs of Congress and JDS, the HD Kumaraswamy-led coalition government fell in July and BJP got a chance to come to power. By-elections have been held on the seats vacated by these disqualified MLAs. Congress won 12 out of the 15 seats while the JDS account for 3 seats. BJP needs at least 6 of these seats to stay in power. 2 seats in the assembly are still vacant due to pending cases in the High Court. By-elections have not been held for these seats.

On November 13, the Supreme Court had disqualified the legislators:  The BJP has fielded 11 and 3 MLAs who left the Congress and JDS in the elections. On 25 and 28 July, Ramesh Kumar disqualified these MLAs.
