Target to increase revenue of Khadi and rural industries, likely to reach Rs 2 lakh crore

In the Modi government, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the government is moving towards bringing the revenue of Khadi and rural industries to two lakh crore rupees in the next five years. Currently, it is about 75,000 crores. He urged the industry to increase the global trade 10 percent of the sector and capitalize on the opportunity given by China's domestic scenario. China holds a 17% stake in the global trade of this sector.

Currently struggling to maintain production levels due to cost and other difficulties. He said that he is sad to see that despite importing mineral deposits, we import things like coal and newsprint. Gadkari suggested that coal can be sourced from Paradip for the power plant of Kandla, which can reduce the cost of electricity from 35 to 40 paise per unit.

In his statement, the Union Minister while referring to the possibilities of the MSME sector said that 38,000 export capacity of qualified industries come under this sector and it has created 11 crore jobs. He said that there is a plan to create five crore jobs in this sector in the next five years. Gadkari said that 115 backward districts are being developed keeping in mind the new India target of 2022 by Prime Minister Modi. Products like honey, bamboo, ethanol, methanol and bio CNG are being promoted on a large scale in these districts.
