On the demand for an early hearing on violence in West Bengal, the court said that we cannot take the jurisdiction of all the courts in our hands. Incidents and circumstances may be different everywhere. Such cases should first go to the High Court. Advocate Ashwani Upadhyay has demanded an NIA probe into the incidents of the nuisance. Meanwhile, DMK (DMK) has also filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the Citizenship Amendment Act. On Monday, the court said on the plea of lawyer Indira Jaising that we are not against peaceful protests but we cannot allow the law and order to take over. Chief Justice SA Bobde said that he wanted the violence to stop. We will determine the rights but in the circumstances of the riots, this cannot happen.

The Chief Justice had said that the violence should be peaceful first, then later we will consider the whole matter. We are not against rights and peaceful demonstrations. We want to be assured of peace but if you want to get on the road, do not come to us. Indira Jaising told the Supreme Court that the court should take cognizance of the issue as such incidents are violations of human rights.
