The PM had given a statement in the past, on which senior Congress leader Tarun Gogoi told Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that there is no Detention Camp in the country. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Gogoi said that the Assam government under his leadership had set up a detention camp on the order of the Guwahati High Court. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee also suggested setting up detention camps for illegal migrants.
According to media reports, at a rally in Delhi, Gogoi said that he is lying, citing Prime Minister Modi's statement that there is no Detention Camp in the country. He claimed that the Modi government in 2018 sanctioned Rs 46 crore to build the country's largest detention camp for three thousand illegal migrants in Goalpara, Assam. Now suddenly they are saying that there is no Detention Camp in the country.
Gogoi further said that the people of BJP are saying that Detention Camp should be made during Congress. On the orders of the High Court, we built camps for those who had been declared as foreigners by the Foreigners Tribunal. No one is stopping the BJP government from expelling illegal migrants from Assam.
