During the last three years, more than 600 cases of attacks on policemen have been registered in the national capital. The government gave this information in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Minister of State for Home Affairs G.R. Krishna Reddy said in a written reply that from 2017 to 31 October 2019, eight such cases were registered in which lawyers attacked policemen and none of them were arrested. He said that in the year 2017, 232 cases of police attacks by mischievous elements were registered. The number of such cases is 219 in the year 2018 and 156 in the year 2019.

Apart from this, Reddy said that 1,226 mischievous elements have been arrested on the charge of assault on the police. In the year 2017, 437 mischievous elements were arrested, while in the year 2018, their number was 458. As of 31 October 2019, 331 mischievous elements have been caught. Delhi Police employees demonstrated in front of the Police Headquarters on November 5 against two attacks on colleagues, which created an atmosphere of controversy across the country.
