Amid nationwide protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said, 'There are no' detention camps' in the state and Muslim citizens need not worry about their governance. For your information, let us tell you that in July 2019, the Ministry of Home Affairs said in the Rajya Sabha that the center's right to identify, detain and extradite illegal migrants has been transferred to the states under the Constitution. States should keep illegal migrants in detention centres until nationality is identified and extradited. This statement by Thackeray about Muslims came when there is an atmosphere of fear about CAA and NRC (National Civil Register) in the country. Now where he has made it clear that there is no detention camp in the state.

Thackeray assured a delegation to be met under the leadership of some MLAs of the Muslim community. Nationalist Congress Party MLA Nawab Malik (who was part of the delegation) said that the Chief Minister assured that the Muslims in the state No injustice will be faced. The Chief Minister acknowledged the community's concerns that the Detention Center at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai was for foreign nationals involved in drug trafficking cases. Malik further said that his party is an ally of Thackeray-led Maharashtra government. It was stated that only 38 people can be accommodated there (Kharghar Detention Center).

The NCP leader said, 'CM believes that people should not have any misunderstanding about the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. His government will not allow the rights of citizens of any religion or community to be hurt. They appeal for peace and harmony in the state. ' Maharashtra Home Minister Eknath Shinde, Industries Minister Subhash Desai, Director General of Police Subodh Jaiswal, Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve, Shiv Sena MLA Abdul Sattar and Congress MLA Amin Patel were also present on the occasion. For information, during a rally in New Delhi on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress and its allies of spreading rumors that Muslims would be sent to detention centers. At the same time, PM Modi said that citizenship law or national register of citizens has nothing to do with Indian Muslims.
