New Delhi: Annu Rani's great performance continues at the ongoing 59th National Open Athletics Championships in Ranchi. Annu has won the gold medal in the women's javelin throw event. Annu, who qualified for the final with a national record of 62.43 meters in the women's javelin throw event at the World Championships in Doha earlier this month, did not face any special challenge at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium here. The 25-year-old railwayman threw the javelin 56.97, 55.97, 58.31, 57.29, 56.86, 58.60 meters in six attempts.

Sharmila, who finished second, had the best performance of 53.28 meters. ONGC's Suresh Kumar finished first in the 10 thousand meter race with a time of 29 minutes 41.25 seconds. Murali Kumar Gavit of Gujarat, who won the bronze medal in the Asian Championship, finished ninth. Meanwhile, Javelin Throw star player Neeraj Chopra said that he decided not to participate in the championship on the advice of his coach. Chopra said, AFI officials talked to my coach. The coach told me that you are getting better, but taking part in the competition after such a long time will have a bad effect. So they decided to withdraw.
