New Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar issued a cautionary message to the nation on Saturday, warning against attempts by "anti-national forces" to suggest that India might face a political crisis similar to the recent upheaval in Bangladesh, where the Prime Minister was ousted by a mass uprising. Speaking at the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur, Dhankhar expressed concern over individuals drawing parallels between India and its neighboring country, labeling these comparisons as misguided.

Dhankhar's remarks were indirectly aimed at Congress leaders Salman Khurshid and Mani Shankar Aiyar, who had drawn such comparisons. Khurshid had suggested that despite the current stability in India, events similar to those in Bangladesh could potentially unfold here. Aiyar, a former diplomat and Union Minister, had also made similar statements.

Dhankhar emphasized the importance of national interest, declaring that it should be the highest priority. He criticized those who, despite having significant experience, quickly draw unfounded comparisons between the political situations of different countries. "Be on watch out!! Efforts by some to infuse a narrative that what happened in our neighbourhood is bound to happen in our Bharat, is deeply concerning," he warned.

The Vice President's comments come amid ongoing political turmoil in Bangladesh. Following violent protests and clashes, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and sought refuge in India. An interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has since taken over, focusing on restoring law and order after the unrest.

Additionally, Dhankhar reflected on the Emergency period imposed in June 1975 by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, describing it as a "draconian darkest period" since India's independence. He expressed concern over the judiciary's compliance with the "brazen dictatorial regime" during that time.
