New Delhi: PM Modi praised the policemen at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. At the same time, during the fiery movement, targeting the police forces by the unruly elements, he expressed grief and said that to keep us safe, these brave people keep their lives on duty without caring for the cold, heat and rain. Thousands of soldiers have sacrificed while performing their duty to keep the public safe. According to the statistics of the Indian Police Journal, more than 34 thousand policemen have lost their lives in the country so far.

The Indian Police has done a remarkable job since Jadi. According to the Indian Police Journal, till 1957 after independence, the number of soldiers who were martyred in the country was 557. In 2018, their total number so far reached 34842.

It is being said that the police is the first agency of the government that responds first to the people when it is needed. Then, whether there is a terrorist attack in the country or a simple crime, law and order deterioration or a catastrophe, the police is in front of it all the time. There is a shortage of policemen in India. According to the UN standard, there should be around 230 policemen per one lakh people. The national average is 141 according to NCRB's 2013 data. In Uttar Pradesh, the number of policemen per one lakh population is 78, 77 in Bihar, 115 in Rajasthan, 112 in Madhya Pradesh. These figures are enough to tell how a policeman has to carry out his work.
