Bengaluru: S Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, informed the Karnataka government on Tuesday that the body of Naveen Shekharappa, who died in Ukraine during Russian military operations, will be brought to India once the shelling ceases, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. Bommai also said that Naveen's body has been embalmed and kept in a mortuary in Ukraine.

"The External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has informed us that Naveen's (MBBS student Naveen Shekharappa, who died during shelling in Ukraine) body has been embalmed and is being kept in a Ukrainian mortuary. His body will be returned to India once the shelling ceases "Bommai stated.

Earlier on Saturday, the Chief Minister presented a cheque for Rs 25 lakh to Naveen Shekharappa's family and promised a job for a family member.

Naveen Shekharappa Gyanagoudar, the deceased student, was a resident of Karnataka's Haveri district. The 21-year-old Kharkiv National Medical University student was reportedly waiting in line to buy food when he was killed by Russian shelling.
