Amritsar: Former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is serving a one-year jail term in Patiala jail, is likely to be released soon. Sidhu is currently lodged in Patiala jail in connection with a 34-year-old road rage case and according to sources, Sidhu may be released from jail due to good conduct on the occasion of Republic Day.
Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu has spent six and a half months in jail so far. As per the rules, all factors related to Sidhu's release are in his favor. Congress leader Sidhu's name is among the positive reports sent to the Punjab government by the jail authorities recommending their release due to good conduct on the occasion of Republic Day. Navjot Singh Sidhu's conduct in jail and the responsibility assigned to him as a clerk and not taking any leave even after having jail rules, all seem to be going in favor of Navjot Singh Sidhu. It is being told that he can get released soon. At present, the ball is now in the court of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of Punjab.
On the other hand, it is said that after Sidhu comes out of jail, he can be assigned important work related to Congress. However, reports of Sidhu's release hinge on the fate of his pending case with the party's disciplinary committee for his involvement in anti-party activities. Earlier this month, Sidhu appeared in a Ludhiana court via video conference as a witness in another case of alleged harassment against a former minister on November 4. Sidhu appeared in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (Ludhiana) Sumit Makkar.
