Amritsar: Punjab Congress unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu's advisor Malvinder Singh Mali has resigned from his post. Several controversial statements were made by Malvinder Singh Mali after assuming the post of advisor. Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat had asked Navjot Singh Sidhu to remove his advisers after the statements were sparked by the uproar.

Malvinder Singh Mali has resigned saying, "I fully believe that Jammu and Kashmir is part of India, but with sections 370 and 35A, I believe that the manner in which they were removed is a violation of the Constitution.''  Malvinder Singh Mali said the Constitution of India also empowers him to have a different opinion. I support all petitions challenging the central government's decision to remove Section 370.

The Congress had appointed Navjot Singh Sidhu as the president of the state unit before the assembly elections in Punjab. Navjot Singh Sidhu had appointed his executive presidents and advisers who had been agitated. When it comes to Malvinder Singh Mali, he first described Jammu and Kashmir as a separate country and said the Kashmir issue was pending in the United Nations. At the same time, he had shared a controversial cartoon related to former PM Indira Gandhi. He also recently compared Punjab CM Amarinder Singh and his associates to 'Ali Baba and 40 thieves.'
