New Delhi: Leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convened at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda’s residence in New Delhi on Friday. The meeting focused on the proposed "one nation, one election" concept and the ongoing situation in the northeastern region, particularly in Manipur, where violence between tribes continues. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju provided an update on the government's efforts to enhance infrastructure development in the northeastern region and address the violence in Manipur, which has persisted for over a year. Rijiju reportedly informed the allies that the situation on the ground has shown signs of improvement.

Regarding the "one nation, one election" proposal championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the allies were briefed that the concept was also explored during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance’s (UPA) tenure. Union Minister Bhupinder Yadav discussed recommendations from the 2015 Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, and Law and Justice, chaired by E M Sudarsana Natchiappan. The committee had suggested that simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and state assemblies would reduce the significant costs associated with separate elections and mitigate the policy paralysis caused by the Model Code of Conduct during election periods.

The meeting also resulted in a consensus that NDA leaders should gather at least once a month to address key issues and review matters at the state level. A party official indicated that there was agreement on regular monthly meetings and that it was suggested BJP leadership should also engage with partners individually to discuss state-specific concerns. Although Shiva Sena (Shinde) leaders were absent, representatives from over a dozen allies, including Apna Dal, Janata Dal (United), Janata Dal (Secular), Telugu Desam Party, Lok Janshakti Party, Hindustani Awam Morcha, and Tamil Maanila Congress, were present at the meeting.
