New Delhi: The Union Government said on Friday that it was critical to keep a close eye on Government e-Marketplace (GeM) procurement data and identify any deviant behaviour using Advanced Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (AI ML) based tools so that immediate and strict action could be taken against any such deviant behaviour.
On the orders of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a review meeting of the GeM was convened on Friday, chaired by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. Buyers from more than 50 Central Government Ministries and 50 CPSEs were invited to provide firsthand input.
Goyal praised the efforts of various Buyer organisations in growing their procurements through GeM, emphasising that the Prime Minister has set a target of 75% procurement through GeM by August 15 and 100% procurement through GeM by the conclusion of the current fiscal year.
"The minister said that there was a need to keep a close eye on GeM procurement data and identify any deviant behaviour using Advanced Analytics and AI ML-based tools so that immediate and strict action could be taken against any such deviant behaviour," the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a press release.
The Minister underlined the importance of changing the public's image of public procurement as a source of corruption. He claimed that GeM has ushered in a tidal change in how the public perceives public procurement. He expressed the hope that GeM will continue to communicate with all stakeholders and will focus on procurement ease in the future. He preferred that GeM be measured against the top in class rather than against other government systems.
