Today, on the 1st of June, the sixth President of India, Neelam Sanjeev Reddy, passed away. When he lost the presidential election in 1969, he returned to his village Ilur in Andhra Pradesh to cultivate. He had already announced his retirement from politics. He was happy with his life. Suddenly, eight years later, his fate changed and he was elected president unopposed. Who lived in a single room only. He also wanted the remaining rooms of Rashtrapati Bhavan to be emptied. In the rest, he was explained a lot, so he came to stay in Rashtrapati Bhavan, but his life here was very simple.

He was also the President of India who paid 70 percent of his salary to the Government Fund. He, like other Presidents, did not hire servants for his personal use. He used to try to ensure that every common man can also come to Rashtrapati Bhavan to meet him. Neelam Sanjeev Reddy was born in a well-to-do family in Illur village of Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. There were a lot of lands. There was a big cultivation. It was the father's status. But Neelam Sanjeev Reddy walked a different route. First he jumped into the freedom struggle. Influenced by Mahatma Gandhi. After independence, he was among the leaders close to Nehru.

When Andhra Pradesh became the new State in 1962, the then PM Jawaharlal Nehru made him the first CM there. He then came to the Centre as a Cabinet Minister. He first joined Lal Bahadur Shastri's cabinet and then became cabinet minister even as Indira Gandhi became PM. Then the Congress was influenced by the syndicate. It was because of the influence of the syndicate that he became the Speaker of the Lok Sabha after the 1967 elections. However, it is said that he had earlier agreed to something with Indira Gandhi. In the political corridors, it is said that Indira Gandhi did not like her at all. So Indira was upset when the Congress syndicate made Neelam Sanjeev Reddy the candidate for the President without knowing Indira Gandhi's wishes. Neelam Sanjiv Reddy, who was contesting the presidential election after resigning as speaker, lost the election. The syndicate was extremely gritty. Later, the party broke up. But Neelam Reddy could not tolerate the defeat then he returned to Andhra Pradesh.
