Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold medal in the Olympics, has announced that he will not compete in the next 36th National Games in Gujarat, which will take place later this month. Neeraj wants to take some time off to recuperate up after the season's rigours and be ready for major competitions in 2023.

The National Games will be held in Gujarat's six cities of Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar between September 27 and October 10. It is anticipated that 8000 athletes from all 28 States and the eight Union Territories will compete in 36 sports.

With a javelin throw of 88.84 on Thursday at the Diamond League Final in Zurich, Chopra concluded his 2022 campaign and became the first Indian to take home the trophy.

The dates for the National Games were recently announced; however, I have spoken with my coach and he has advised me to skip it to rest and prepare for a crucial season next year. "As per my schedule planned at the start of the year, this was my last event of the season. I would have participated in the Asian Games around this time but that were postponed. So, my season ends with the Zurich event," Chopra said at a virtual press conference from Zurich organised by the Athletics Feder.

Despite the fact that Chopra's international campaign, which concluded on Thursday, was fairly successful and satisfying, the 24-year-old, who also won a silver medal at the World Championships in Oregon, USA, had to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham due to a minor injury. Last season, he struggled with a groyne issue.
Therefore, it makes sense why he would be concerned about extending the season of a domestic event. Chopra wants to take a break and recharge before the upcoming season, which includes the Asian Games in September in Hangzhou, China, and the World Championship in Budapest, Hungary, to be held from August 19 to August 27, 2023. The qualification scheme for Paris 2024 will also begin the following year, so getting things moving far before the Olympics is always a good idea.

The body goes through a lot of wear and tear and strain during a season, so adequate rest during the reason and a decent off-season are highly crucial, according to Chopra. "Rest and recreation are also very important for an athlete, we can't simply think about contests and trophies," he added.
